21 Days of Prayer and Fasting
January 8 – 28 / 2024

These 21 days represent a practical way of demonstrating our devotion to God by setting apart time at the beginning of this year to focus on our relationship with Him through the disciplines of prayer and fasting. Here you will find some resources to provide a bit of structure and guidance for your time each day. We suggest you to bookmark this page so you can come back anytime.

We are including a written prayer that we are inviting you to prayerfully read through each day and a short daily podcast that works through the prayer line by line inviting you to slow down and really think about the words you are saying. We suggest having a journal handy to jot down any helpful thoughts from the podcast or things you sense God speaking to you in your prayer time.

We are also inviting you to fast for these 21 days. A biblical fast is abstaining from food for a certain amount of time for spiritual reasons. If you are new to fasting and the idea of abstaining from all food for 21 days feels overwhelming to you, we still want to invite you to participate in some way. Maybe you can abstain from one meal a day, one or more food groups for the entire time, or fast just a few days to kick off your plan. It doesn’t really matter what you choose to do, the point is that we are inviting you to participate in something together as a community.

On Monday January 29 we will gather together at 7pm for a one hour corporate prayer meeting at Mountain Park Church. During this prayer meeting we can share anything we sense God has been speaking to us or doing in our lives throughout this time. We believe this will be a super encouraging evening that will take our private practice of prayer into community and give us a space to talk about the good things we see God doing.

The following is a scripted prayer that we are inviting you to pray each day with us…

We recognize that using a scripted prayer may be a brand new practice and could even be intimidating for some of you. In Episode 2 of the Podcast we have dedicated some time to explaining why we chose to incorporate a scripted prayer and how it can challenge us when we shake up our regular prayer routines.

The Apprentice Prayer

Dear Father, I chose today to rest in the fact that I am firmly held in your unshakeable and eternal kingdom. I cling to my identity as your beloved child and set your great love for me as the anchoring point from which I live and move throughout my day. Please don’t let me stray from this truth… that I am deeply loved by you.

I ask Father, for you to ordain the events of this day and use them to make me more like Jesus. I trust you Sovereign Lord. No matter what problems, hardships or challenges I face today, help me to not get worried or frustrated, but to instead relax in your loving presence that is always with me.

I seek to love you today with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind, all my strength and to honour you in all my relationships. I desire to love others as you love me, blessing everyone I meet, even those who mistreat me. I ask for the grace to carry your compassionate heart and kingdom perspective into every interaction I have today.

Jesus, I seek to live as your apprentice in every area of my life. I devote my whole self to you. I invite you to examine my heart, purify me and prepare me for the things you desire to do through me. My everyday life is a space for you to teach me your will and your ways. I am willing to embrace the uncommon life you’ve called me into in order to see renewal in my family, my church and my community.

I relinquish my agenda for this day and I submit myself to you and your kingdom purposes. In all things today I pray, your will be done… in your way and your perfect timing.

I declare my dependance on you Holy Spirit, not my own intellect, reasoning or resources. Help me to listen carefully to your voice and keep in step with you. Is there anything you want me to know as I start my day?
