We are able.

A Life You’ll Love
Session Three

1 Peter 3:10 we read, “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil.”

So what exactly does it mean to refrain our tongues from evil?

We might immediately think of things like lying, slander, gossip and swearing, which we should be careful not to do for sure… but there is a much deeper meaning to the context of this scripture.

Let’s take a look at another spot in the bible where we hear about evil speech…

Numbers 13:30-32
“Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel.”

The spies who were charged with bringing an evil report of the land were the ones who said, we are not able. Wow. That is a sobering thought… whenever we say that we are not able we lose out on the promises of God because of our evil speech.

I want to be of the camp of people who will say, we are well able! We will never see the promises of God manifest in our life if we don’t believe that it is possible. Following Jesus and living the life he provided takes faith.

Consider this… how often do we lose out on miracles because of our negative talk?
